New Mexico Men's Basketball
Nebraska vs. New Mexico (NIT Tournament)
New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:
We are excited about the win. This team (Nebraska) is a good team. They come in holding their opponents to 59 points. For us to get 83 points, especially coming off a game against Wyoming where we didn't shoot well, our guys really got off to a good start and the offense flowed the entire night.
On Daniel Faris:
Not too many centers have the success that Daniel (Faris) had against them. I thought Daniel was terrific tonight. He was a big key to our win.
On keeping composure:
We had too many turnovers. Overall, when you hold your opponent to 36 percent shooting, when you shoot 51 percent yourself, and when you out-rebound the other team, you did some pretty good things.
Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler
Overall thoughts on the game.
"Anytime you come to The Pit it's going to be very difficult to win. Steve (Alford) has got a tremendous basketball team here. They do what he asks them to and even though it wasn't the normal sellout crowd it was still a great atmosphere here. Defensively that was the most points we've given up all year. They took advantage of all our miscues."
Where the game got away from Nebraska
"I think both halves got away from us at different points. We still had chances late in the game."
