ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.---The University of New Mexico track and field team opens the 2011 outdoor season this weekend. The Lobos will have athletes competing at the Stanford Invitational and the Arizona State Invitational.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL PREVIEW:
Several Lobos are set to compete in one of the largest and most competitive meets in the nation this weekend, when the Stanford Invitational is contested at Cobb Track and Angell Field. The annual meet will be all day Friday and Saturday and feature some collegiate talent from around the nation.
The Stanford Invitational begins at 10 a.m. on Friday morning with the field events as the collegiate javelin kicks things off. The running events will begin at 12 p.m. with the fourth section of the men's 5,000 meters.
Saturday once again begins at 10 p.m. with both the running and field events.
ARIZONA STATE PREVIEW:
On Saturday, New Mexico will compete with athletes from Arizona State, Baylor, Boise State, Georgia, Kansas State, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, South Dakota State, TCU, Texas A&M, UC Riverside, Utah (W) and Weber State. The ASU Invitational will take place at the Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe.
Field events are set to begin at 2 p.m. and running events will begin at 6 p.m.
