ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico volleyball team picked up its first win of the season at the Lobo Comcast Invitational Friday night (September 5), outlasting Youngstown State in a five-game marathon (30-28, 30-25, 20-30, 26-30, 15-13).

Anna Reines (Sr., Big Lake, Minnesota) led the Lobos with 14 kills, while Chelsea Sondrup (So., Pleasant Grove, Utah) and Kelly Therkelsen (Fr., Eagan, Minnesota) added 13 and 11 kills, respectively. The 11 kills were a career high for Sondrup, who also hit a team-high .320 for the match. Adah Burke (So., Las Cruces) registered a career-high 15 digs to pace the Lobo defense and Monica Meihack (Jr., Fallon, Nevada) chipped in with 38 assists to lead the offensive attack.

The Lobos (1-3) jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage after topping the Penguins (3-3) 30-28 and 30-25 in games one and two. YSU bounced back to take game three, 30-20, and edged UNM in game four, 30-26.

In the fifth and decisive game, the Lobos hit .348 to put the Penguins away. Reines came alive at the end, pounding five kills in seven attempts for a .714 attack percentage.

Delaware swept Alcorn State (30-25, 30-17, 30-28) in the opening game of the tournament. New Mexico returns to action to face Alcorn State tomorrow (September 6) at 12:30 p.m. The finale of the tournament will be at 7:30 p.m. as the Lobos face Delaware.
