Tyson Invitational Live Results

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of New Mexico women's indoor long jump record is still standing...barely. One week after Sandy Fortner landed three inches shy, sophomore Alesha Walker missed Keren Sari-Bentzur's 2001 mark by a quarter of an inch with a lifetime best leap of 19' 10 3/4" (6.06m) this afternoon at Arkansas' Tyson Invitational.

Walker finished an impressive third in the 50-woman field - less than three inches behind the winner, Mountain West Conference rival Neidra Covington of TCU (20' 1 1/2" - 6.13m).

Walker surpassed her previous indoor best (19' 2 3/4") on five of her six attempts with three marks over six meters (19' 8"), including her personal record on her final jump. Her previous best in the event - indoor or outdoor - was a mark of 19' 7 3/4" to win the Texas class 4A state long jump title for Killeen Ellison High School in 2006.

She also matched her career-best in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 in the prelims (54th).

New Mexico continues its split squad action tomorrow as the sprinters and jumpers resume competition at Arkansas while the distance runners toe the line at Washington's Husky Classic.
