ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Senior third baseman Ian Hollick went three-for-three and had one RBI to lead the Silver team over the Cherry team 8-3 Tuesday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Silver team extends their lead over the Cherry team, 3-1, to clinch the 2007 Lobo Baseball Cherry & Silver Fall Series.
The Cherry team came out swinging and put up three first-inning runs with Matt Hibbits doubling down the left field line to score Dane Hamilton. Rafael Neda singled to right field on a fly ball that just landed fair but would drive in two runs.
The Silver team quickly answered and put up four runs to take the lead and never look back. After a Hollick double that scored Mike Brownstein, Adam Courcha drove in two runs with a double of his own. Mark Rockey singled to center to drive in Courcha.
Pitchers for both sides would settle down after giving up big first innings. John Hesketh, for the Cherry squad, would get four innings of work giving up six earned runs on eight hits. Drew Kendrick picked up the win for the Silver team pitching two and two-thirds innings and gave up only three runs on six hits. The relief for the Silver team only gave up one hit in four and one third innings.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, second basemen Chad Itokazu brought the crowd to their feet with a towering shot over the left field fence.
The series will conclude this Thursday afternoon, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. with the Silver team once again taking on the Cherry team out at Lobo Field.
