PROVO, UTAH- The University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving team suffered a loss to defending MWC champions BYU, 174-125, Saturday afternoon at the Richards Building pool. Top swimmers for UNM were junior Nicole Overeem, sophomore Robyn Miller and sophomore Kelsey Leckovic.
Overeem grabbed two first place finishes in the 1000 free (10:42.64) and 500 free (5:13.97) while Miller captured the gold in the 200 fly (2:09.49) and 400 IM (4:37.82). Leckovic had s strong outing as well, with a win in the 100 free (54.31) and a second place finish in the 200 free (1:58.74).
The UNM diving squad kept its winning momentum with two first place finishes and two third place finishes. On the 3-meter dive, senior Tracey Berghian came in first with a total of 296.78 points while junior Becca Barras fell into the third spot with 259.96 points. Barras then went on to capture a win in the 1-meter dive (264.75) and Berghian grabbed third place with 223.80 points.
The Lobos are back on the road Saturday Jan. 24 when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to face New Mexico State in a dual-meet. Meet time is 1:00 p.m.
