With its 72-60 victory, New Mexico snaps a 3-game losing streak and improves to 14-3 in The Pit, 5-7 in the MWC and 14-11 overall...the Lobos have won five straight and 12 of their last 13 at home...San Diego State, meanwhile, fell to 2-9 on the road this season and 0-6 in Mountain West Conference play...the Aztecs have lost 9 straight away from Cox Arena...UNM is guaranteed no worse than a .500 season with the win.
San Diego State led by as many as 6 points, 23-17, at the 8:10 mark of the first half...however, New Mexico scored 27 of the next 33 points in the game to stake a 44-29 lead five minutes into the second half...the Lobos held the Aztecs scoreless for the first 6:26 of the second half...SDSU finally got on the board at the 13:34 mark on reserve guard Trimaine Davis' jumper.
After being outrebounded by a season-worst 16 (43-17) in its last meeting with San Diego State, New Mexico trailed by just two tonight, 38-36...Danny Granger led all players with 15 rebounds, one shy of his season-high...Granger notched double-digits in rebounds for the first time in 11 games when he grabbed 14 at Wyoming.
UNM post David Chiotti tallied 14 points and 6 rebounds in the second half...after starting the night 1-6 from the floor, Chiotti hit 6 of his next 7...he sat out the first meeting of the year with the Aztecs due to a sprained ankle.
SDSU center Aerick Sanders finished with just 10 points (5-12 FGs) and 7 rebounds in 29 minutes before fouling out in the second half...Sanders posted 27 points (10-14 FGs) and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes on Feb. 2 vs. New Mexico.
