IRVINE, Calif.--- The University of New Mexico women's swimming team is in ninth place with 95 points after day one of the Nike Cup Invitational hosted by the University of California Irvine. Competition is taking place at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif., with a total of 21 women's teams participating.
The 400-yard medley relay team, consisting of senior Tori Clarridge, juniors Carly Hilo and Katrina McLoughlin, and sophomore Ashley Grisdale, had the best finish of the day with a ninth-place finish in a time of 3:58.04. A 10th-place finish was captured by the 200-yard freestyle relay team, Clarridge, McLoughlin, sophomore Theresa Rogers, and freshman Sally Bellinger (1:38.73).
Sophomore Ashley Grisdale had the top individual finish taking 15th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.74. Senior Andrea Zarins placed 21st in the same event with a time of 2:10.65. Clarridge also captured a 21st-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.41).
The Lobos continue competition today at the Speedo Cup Invitational, which concludes on Saturday.
