ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico softball team (28-26, 3-8) ended its home season with two wins over UNLV, including a 3-0 shutout in game two at Lobo Field Sunday afternoon. The Lobos took game one 6-2, stretching the UNLV losing streak to eight games.
Sophomore Iraina Ogas dominated game one from the circle, tossing a no-hitter through the fourth. For the game, she allowed just four hits, two earned runs, one walk and two strikeouts for her ninth win of the season.
The Lobos batted around the order one inning later. Sophomore Stephanie Kennedy singled to center, scoring sophomore Jamar Bynum for the 2-0 lead. Junior Ashley Shartzer provided the third straight single one batter later, driving home Kennedy. Freshman Robyn Hutson hit a bases-clearing double to left center, scoring Shartzer and senior pinch runner Jen Sena for a 5-0 lead. Hutson added one more run an inning later with a single to center that brought home senior Ora Hensley.
UNLV tried to rally in the seventh, scoring two runs off of a Britney Hillyer single and Amber Campbell double but that is all the Rebels could muster.
Senior Amy Dumas tossed a five-hit shutout in game two which was her final game at Lobo Field. Dumas gave up just two walks while striking out eight.
The first Lobo run came off of a long fly ball to left from Chavez that gave Hutson enough time to scoot home. One inning later, Hutson was plunked in the head with the bases loaded to walk in Bynum for a 2-0 lead. The final run came in the sixth as senior Kim Korsak belted a single to center field in her final at bat at home, scoring Sena.
On the day, Hutson and Kennedy each hit .600 (3-for-5) with Hutson accumulating four RBI while Kennedy had one. As a team, the Lobos hit .333 and held the Rebels to just .173. In the circle, the Lobos had a 1.00 ERA while UNLV rang in at 5.25.
