New Mexico head coach Steve Alford:
"They changed shots. They blocked shots. They're doing a great job defensively. We really wanted to play their bigs one-on-one, and I thought A.J. (Hardeman) and Will (Brown) did a tremendous job. They didn't get into foul trouble, you don't want to get in foul trouble in a game like this."
"This is the best team we've played. We've brought intensity every night. I don't think our guys played any harder tonight than they did two weeks ago. That's why I'm so proud of them. It's hard over a long haul to play at a high level of intensity and we've played 22 games now and our intensity level has been at a really big high against those teams."
BYU head coach Dave Rose:
"Two really good basketball teams playing tonight. The guys were playing hard. Guarded hard, contested shots. They did a good job of controlling the boards early and then we couldn't recover from that and took a lead late but just didn't make enough shots. These are great games and you learn a lot about your team.
We'll find out a lot about our guys tomorrow and Friday and see how we recover, rebound for the Saturday game (vs. Utah). You want to win every game you play but our guys competed hard and we had a chance to win it, it just didn't happen."
On play of UNM point guard Dairese Gary:
"Dairese Gary was terrific. He is really hard to guard. The fact that a post guy came up to help. There were a lot of quick fouls that were called and that made us a little bit soft. He was a great finisher, terrific free-throw shooter, and he was obviously a huge factor for them tonight."
