The University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving team posted a 3.47 grade-point-average for the 2007 spring semester, which ranks as the highest among UNM's 21 intercollegiate sports. That's also the best GPA for the swimmers since UNM began tracking grades in the fall of 1988.
"I couldn't be more pleased with our academic performances the past year," said head coach Tracy Ljone. "Our coaching staff continuously emphasizes the importance of academics and earning a degree. Our team has taken a lot of responsibility to make this happen."
The Lobo swimmers and divers had a 3.45 GPA for the 2006 fall semester. At the time, that was the team's best term before it was eclipsed in the spring.
