LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A complete game isn't exactly commonplace in college baseball, but the UNLV Rebs' pitching staff turned the trick for the second night in a row in defeating the New Mexico Lobos 4-1.

Reb Tanner Peters went the distance Friday night in an 8-0 UNLV win and teammate Joe Robinson did it again Saturday night. Robinson wasn't exactly overpowering with only two strikeouts in nine innings. However, he handcuffed the Lobos on a single hit as most of the balls coming off UNM bats turned into harmless grounders.

Robinson lost his shutout when UNM scored an unearned run in the seventh inning, which was aided by a dropped fly ball by the UNLV left fielder. UNM's lone hit came off the bat of Alex Allbritton in the third inning. That Lobo was quickly removed from the bases when he was thrown out trying to steal second.

The Lobos didn't get a hit in the top of the seventh, however, UNM did plate its first run with a little help off that UNLV error in left field.

Lobo Jacob Nelson opened the frame with a walk and was sacrificed down to second on a bunt by Ben Woodchick. Landon Joost then lofted a fly to left that the Reb fielder dropped. Nelson scooted into third and scored off a Sam Wilson grounder.

Joost was stranded at third when Kyle Stiner grounded out to second base. That score allowed UNM to edge closer, down 3-1. The Lobos never threatened again.

UNM's Jake McCasland went 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and giving up three earned runs. He was relieved by Bobby Mares with two outs in the sixth with runners on first and second. Mares got a third-out strikeout to end that inning..

The Rebels struck quickly establishing a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Trevor Kirk opened the frame for the Rebs with a single to left center. He advanced to third off a single to right by Scott Dysinger. Kirk scored from third when Trent Cook pushed a grounder to the right side.

UNM had a chance at scoring in the top of the second when the Lobos loaded the bases with two out. UNM's Woodchick was hit by a pitch and then Joost reached on an error. UNM's Wilson walked after eight pitches to place a Lobo on every bag, but UNLV escaped when Stiner flied out to left.

The Rebs padded their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth when a triple by Kirk knocked in two teammates, who reached on a walk and a single.

The Rebs used a rally in the eighth to move the scoreboard to 4-1. UNLV's Cook opened the frame with a double and was joined on the bases by Brandon Bayardi, who reached on a walk. Mares got two Rebels to hit the ball up and faced Reb Richie Jimenez with two outs and Cook on third.

Jimenez hit a tough grounder to Allbritton at short, which scored Cook and put Jimenez safely on first with a hit. The Rebs then loaded the bases, but Mares got out of that jam off a grounder to Allbritton, who got the force at second.

The Rebs ended the game with 12 hits. The Rebs went into the three-game series with UNM riding a four-game losing streak and now ride a two-game win streak into Sunday's 2 p.m. finale. The loss dropped UNM to 13-31 on the year and 7-10 in Mountain West play. UNLV is 27-18 and 6-10 in league.
