ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico women's soccer hosts its final two home matches of the regular-season this week. The Lobos take on San Diego State Thursday at UNM Soccer Complex starting at 1 p.m. The match against the Aztecs will be filmed and produced as part of the "Inside Soccer" program aired on the Mountain Network. The 2006 home finale is set for Saturday against No. 16 BYU at 5 p.m.
The Lobos are 6-6-3 this fall and 0-2-2 in Mountain West Conference play. UNM has dropped its last two matches but have maintained a 3-3-1 home mark.
SDSU is 6-7-2 this year and 2-0-2 in the MWC. The Aztecs rely on Cat Burson in the net with a 1.35 goals against average. SDSU has gone 2-1-2 in its last five matches including wins over Wyoming and UNLV. Offensively, Jen Mello leads with eight goals and three assists.
The Aztecs lead the all-times series 3-7-3. UNM held SDSU to a 1-1 double overtime tie last year in Albuquerque, N.M. The last Lobo victory over the Aztecs came on Oct. 11, 2002 in San Diego, Calif., 1-0. The last home victory for UNM over SDSU was on Oct. 28, 2001. In the history over the series, the Lobos are 2-1-3 while playing on their home turf.
The Cougars (11-2-2, 2-1-1 MWC) are nationally-ranked 16th heading into the week. BYU is coming off a, 1-0, victory over Air Force and a double overtime, 2-2, tie with SDSU. The Cougars battle Wyoming Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Albuquerque, N.M.
UNM trails the all-time series 3-10-1 and have never beat the Cougars at home. Last year, the Lobos upset then No. 6 BYU, 1-0, on the road. The Cougars have won four of the last five matches.
UNM hosts its annual Senior Day presentation Saturday prior to the match with BYU. The Lobos will recognize seniors Alanna Abeyta, Kellee Hafner, Kaela Kelly, Ashley Lowery, Eryn Paetz, Bridgette Sanchez and Kristine Sweat.
