WACO, Texas --- New Mexico senior Samantha Hughes hit a three-run homer Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Lobos fell to Ole Miss, 6-3. With the loss, UNM went 2-3 at the Getterman Classic with victories over UT-San Antonio and Northwestern State (La.). The Lobos are 3-5 on the year while Mississippi improved to 5-3.

The Rebels jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Ole Miss freshman Corrine Doomberg led off the inning with a single and things were going the Rebels way. Ole Miss had two hits in the inning and took advantage of two Lobo errors.

Mississippi added a run in the third on a run-scoring single by Michelle May. May's single down the left field line allowed Tramp to score. May was 2-for-3 in the game for Ole Miss with two RBI.

The Rebels added two more runs in the fifth inning and led 6-0. With two outs, Ashley Dowdy was hit by the pitch and set the stage for Molly Goza. Goza, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, tripled to right center allowing Dowdy to score. May followed the triple with an RBI double.

UNM tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth when Hughes belted a three-run homer to center field. The shot allowed Erin Brandow and Cristin Anderson to score. Brandow had reached base on an error and Anderson had been hit by a pitch. It was the third home run of the year for Hughes and cut the Ole Miss lead in half.

Despite the rally, the Rebels held on to win 6-3.

Senior Analise Rubalcava started and went five innings for New Mexico. Rubalcava (2-3) gave up six runs on nine hits and took the loss. Freshman Danielle Castro came on in relief in the top of the sixth inning and pitched the final six outs. Castro did not allow a hit in the final two innings.

Becky Nye threw a complete game against New Mexico. Nye (4-2) struck out five and allowed three runs on five hits.

Lobo freshman Jessica Garcia, who was in the designated player position, went 2-for-4 in the contest. Garcia was the only Lobo with multiple hits in the game.
