ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-- The University of New Mexico baseball team had a memorable Alumni weekend this past weekend. Head coach Ray Birmingham and his staff hosted three days filled with good times and, of course, an alumni baseball game for Lobos from the past and the present.

The Alumni game, as always, proved to be a great time for all once again. Alum Ernie Blackstone (1978) served as manager for the Cherry while fellow alum Rick Ronquillo (1979-83) managed the Silver.

This year, the Cherry squad put a ‘whoopin’ on the Silver, winning the game by a score of 9-3. The Cherry team used a fast start to its advantage, scoring eight of its nine runs in the first three innings.

The game was highlighted by the presence of some current pro ball players. The former Lobos that made it out to alumni weekend that are currently playing pro ball included: Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Justin Howard and Ryan Honeycutt.

The weekend was finally capped off with last year’s Mountain West championship team being recognized at half time of the Lobos’ homecoming football game.

"We got a five minute standing ovation,” Birmingham said beaming with pride. “It was pretty cool.”

Lobo baseball would like to thank all who pitched in and made the weekend such and outstanding success.
