ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico's baseball team is hosting their 2010 Alumni weekend September 30-October 2. The weekend will include a social as well as a golf tournament, and will end with the alumni vs. alumni baseball game. A highlight of the weekend will be the 1984-1985 UNM baseball team being introduced on Saturday at the homecoming game.
On Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at Coaches grille alumni Ernie Blackstone will host a social for all UNM baseball alumni and friends of the program.
The Lobo baseball golf tournament fundraiser is on Friday, Oct. 1 at the Desert Greens Golf Course. Registration will start at 7:30 AM and shotgun will start at 8:30 a.m. An entry fee of $150 includes green fees, cart, range balls, shirt and lunch following the tournament. Each player will receive a complimentary shirt.
Saturday, October 2, 2010 concludes the Alumni weekend with the alumni vs. alumni baseball game. Batting practice starts at 8 a.m. with the actual game beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a tailgate party following the baseball game to prepare for the UNM homecoming football game. During the football game, the 1984-1985 Lobo baseball team will be introduced and recognized as one of the greatest teams at UNM. That year the Lobos were ranked 14th in the country. A member of the team, Chad Kuhn will be in attendance.
"It is a big honor to be recognized as one of the greatest UNM baseball teams," Kuhn said. "This baseball team really put UNM baseball on the map. That was a great year for Lobo baseball."
Other players to be in attendance this weekend will be Greg Hall, Jay Slotnick, Bret Davis, Glen Russel, Ed Bartholomew, Chad Kuhn, Joe Coleman, Mark Pierce, James Logan, Jeff Gilkey and Bob Velasco.
