Albuquerque, N.M. --- University of New Mexico men's basketball coach Steve Alford has announced that Drew Adams has been named Director of Basketball Operations. Adams takes over for Duane Broussard, who was promoted to assistant coach on April 26.
Adams served as the Director of Basketball Operations and Video Coordinator at Indiana University last season, after serving as the Hoosiers' Coordinator of Basketball Systems in 2009-10.
"We are very excited to add Drew to our staff," said Alford. "To get an individual that has been at Indiana University and to reunite with a former player is exciting for us, and we are looking forward to Drew getting started."
In 2006-07, Adams was a member of Alford's University of Iowa squad. He came to Iowa after two seasons at Florida Community College in Jacksonville, where he was a team captain before transferring to the Hawkeyes. After Alford came to New Mexico, Adams transferred to the University of Tennessee, , where he served as a student assistant coach before joining Indiana.
With the Lobos, Adams will coordinate travel for Lobo basketball, as well as spearhead the teams' community efforts. He will also monitor academics, along with other duties.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity that Coach Alford has given me to work for him and the Lobos. I learned a lot from him as a player and I know I will learn a lot more from him in the years to come," said Adams. "I have maintained a close relationship with Coach Alford, Coach Neal, and their families over the last four years and I am excited to join them again. It is exciting times in Albuquerque and I can't wait to get there and be a part of it."
Adams is a 2009 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in sports management.
