ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association have released their WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls for the 2011-12 season, and it has given the University of New Mexico women's basketball program another feather in its cap for its memorable 2011-12 season.

With a team grade point average of 3.403, Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez and company have tied for 14th in the country in this esteemed academic ranking. The program's appearance on the list is hardly a new occurrence. Since the 2004-2005 season, New Mexico women's basketball has made the top 25 list in seven out of the last eight seasons. That includes three top ten rankings and the Lobos' highest ranking of 6th in the country during the 2005-2006 season.

It's the latest round of scholastic accolades for the student-athletes of the program. This past season saw Lobos bring home various academic awards, which included junior Caroline Durbin becoming the program's first-ever Capital One Academic All-American.

At the conference level, New Mexico had eight student-athletes receive Mountain West Academic All-Conference awards. Six Lobos also were named to the conference's Scholar Athlete Award list, which was twice as many as any other MW women's basketball program.

As summer continues to pass us by, we are continuing to gear up for the great athletic action the 2012-13 academic year will bring us. Lobo women's basketball has given us another reminder from 2011-12 just what kind of student-athletes represent New Mexico Athletics.
