Lobos Cruise, 72-8, in Soggy Season Opener

The University of New Mexico football team cruised to a season opening, 72-8, win over Texas State-San Marcos tonight. Sophomore running back DonTrell Moore rushed for 109 yards on 20 carries and scored a career-high four rushing touchdowns. Senior quarterback Casey Kelly connected on 12 of 16 pass attempts for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Senior kicker Katie Hnida became the first woman to score in an NCAA Division I football game when she tacked on the extra-point after sophomore Hank Basket's 20-yard touchdown reception with 5:05 left in the game. She connected again on a point-after attempt with 1:21 left in the game. She is now 2/3 in her career on extra point attempts.
