New Mexico Women's Basketball Postgame Quotes
Game 20 - vs. UNLV
Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006
The Pit/Bob King Court - Albuquerque, N.M.
Head Coach Don Flannagan:
"We didn't shoot particularly well, obviously, really bad the first half and didn't improve a heck of a lot in the second half. The defense was excellent. It was a very physical game on both sides. They didn't shoot particularly well either. I thought that key was our blocking out and stopping their transition hoops and you could see at the end of the game how effective they are when they want to go coast to coast, so we did a great job there. Offensive rebounds, which I thought was a key, they had 8 we had 19, that is probably the game right there and of course Katie Montgomery's 3-point shooting which was outstanding."
Did you say anything about shooting in time outs?
"No, every time I set up somebody they usually end up not making it. In the process of cutting, screening and moving that is where we get most of our shots. As far as running a set offense to get a shot, we rarely have success. Usually the defense catches up with us."
UNLV Head Coach Regina Miller
"Well we kept them to a lower shooting percentage which is what we wanted to do but we gave them a lot of second chance opportunities, that's where they scored. Their two key players showed up, Montgomery and Marsh. I thought we needed a little bit better play by our guards. We didn't have a strong guard play and we made too many mistakes, that's what happened."
