New Mexico head coach Steve Alford
"Obviously, a great game for us. We had a lot of guys in double figures. Nate (Garth) and Darington (Hobson) were right on the cusp of joining five other guys. It was a tremendous team effort. Our defense was better. They're in the middle of finals, so to come in and do the things that they did, it's kind of a remarkable team for this early in the season. They are in the middle of finals and they turn the ball over four times. 24 assists, four turnovers that's probably the stat that really sticks out to me. Very, very pleased with the effort we got."
"Four guys are done with finals and the rest have finals Thursday and Friday, and we have to turn our focus to a Creighton team that obviously we owe from a year ago."
On bench play
"I thought in the first half our bench did a poor job of coming in and giving us a lift. The entire halftime was challenging our bench and I thought our bench in the second half was terrific. The bench got 10-12 minutes in the second half so they played most of the last 12 minutes of the game. I thought they did a good job. Jamal (Fenton) got to doing things, Nate (Garth) was really good, Curtis (Dennis) got to moving around. Chad (Adams) did a good job and Will (Brown) came in and was much better in the second half. The bench did a lot better things in the second half than they did in the first."
The quick start
"Obviously, you've got to a lot of concerns as a coach. We didn't throw a lot at (our players) in the last two days. We can't throw much at them the next two days. Finals week is difficult. Mentally, they are worn out and they're up late. They are trying to finish what they need to do. I told them `My class isn't going to be the most important class this week. But you've still got to find away to pass my class.' And passing my class is winning. They did that and now they have to finish up the next two days in the classroom. Come Saturday, it's my class for the next five weeks so we need to improve during that time."
Northern Arizona head coach Mike Adras
Opening Statement "The second half we got blitzed. The start of the game really rocked us. Once our guys settled down, we climbed back into it and made plays. We got them to miss some shots, and we did a good job rebounding. We just couldn't contest any shots (in the second half). They got wide-open looks. They only missed nine shots in the second half, so there was not a lot of rebounding opportunities. We were a little gassed in the second half, not playing a lot of guys, which is hurting our ability to stay fresh. The Lobos applied pressure the entire game."
On the Lobos and their ranking "They are very good. I think they are deserving of where they are at. They have not been beaten and have beat some pretty good teams. They kicked us pretty hard today. Again, I was pleased with the first half after spotting them 12 points early on. We actually outplayed them for the last 16 minutes of that half. They just wear you out.
They kept coming with guys. They had guys come off the bench that I don't think have been playing exceptionally well, but Curtis Dennis played ridiculous in his 16 minutes. I think Nate Garth and Jamal Fenton are certainly capable and they have shown that, but I wasn't expecting Chad Adams and Dennis to produce the way they did. It was a good experience playing in this kind of environment. Hopefully it will help us when we get to Big Sky play. We won't see something like this obviously there, but they are definitely a top 20 team in my mind."
