COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior forward Danny Granger was selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week as he led the Lobos to victories over New Mexico State and Northwestern State last week. New Mexico has won a season-high four games in a row and is 3-0 since Granger and fellow transfer Troy DeVries entered the lineup on Dec. 21.
Ganger, a Metairie, La., native, averaged 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, while connecting on 14-of-26 field goals attempts (53.9.2 percent). He recorded his first double-double in a Lobo uniform with 22 points and 16 rebounds in a 65-49 win over in-state rival New Mexico State. He shot 8-of-17 from the field and hit 6-of-7 free throw attempts. The win snapped a three-game losing skid to the Aggies, which included a 19-point defeat in Las Cruces earlier this season.
In the 87-51 win against Northwestern State, Granger played just 16 minutes and scored 16 points on 6-of-9 field goals, while collecting six rebounds.
It is the first player of the week award given to a Lobo men's basketball player this season.
