New Mexico vs. Loyola Marymount

New Mexico Head Coach Don Flanagan
I knew they were a pretty good team, and they are better than their record. They also have athletes that are difficult to defend. Overall I think we played pretty well. We shot a decent 44%, and we are okay with that. They got 10 offensive rebounds and 7 in the second half, but other than that we are not turning the ball over. We are running our offense when we are patient, and we are pretty tough to stop. I thought Jordan Erskine played well even though she wasn't a big scorer today. If Lauren had been hitting (her shots) she would have had 30 (points). She usually hits the three's that she missed today. Lauren being in there creates a lot of opportunities for us because she drives well, she passes well, she's smart, and she shoots the three and the pull up. It was a more difficult game than some people thought it would be, but I knew this team was going to be pretty good.

Loyola Marymount Head Coach Julie Wilhoit
The focus for me has to be on our team. I liked our first ten minutes of the first half and I liked the way we played in the second half. I think against a lot of teams in our league, we would produce a different result than what we produced in this game. We struggled with shots that we typically score on. We're a work in progress. To come here and play against a team that we respect, and to be in this type of environment is what playing basketball is all about. I need our team to be playing great basketball in January and I think this game helps us prepare.

Wilhoit on playing in The Pit
It's fun. The last time we played here we were playing Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. These fans are knowledgeable and they're gracious. They may not remember us, but they took us under their wing during that tournament and they cheered for us. They stayed for that late-night game against Baylor, there were about 10,000 people, and they supported us. I will always remember and love them for that. And I thought they were very gracious tonight. They're just smart basketball fans.
