Lobos in 16th Place After Opening Round of E-Z-Go Schenkel

The University of New Mexico men's golf team is in 16th place at the E-Z-Go Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., after a 16-over opening round score of 304 today. 13th-ranked Tennessee leads the 18-team event at 6-under with a 282 in the first round.

The Lobos were led by junior Jon Sauer and freshman Tom Carlson who both shot 2-over 74s in their first rounds. Both are tied for 36th in the individual race that is led by three players who shot 4-under 68. Junior Parker Pemberton finished with a 77 while junior Jacob Lestishen rounded out the Lobo scoring with a 79 today. Junior Steve Saunders also played today, carding an 8-over 80.

New Mexico will play round two tomorrow at the Forest Heights Country Club. Live scores via GolfStat.com can be found on GoLobos.com during tomorrow's second round. The event concludes on Sunday with the last of 36 holes.
