ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named University of New Mexico senior Kristina Schmallen and sophomore Lindsey Elcess to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-West Region second team.
Schmallen led UNM in batting average hitting .395. She also led the Lobos in home runs (12), RBI (52) and slugging percentage (.682) this season. Schmallen was also an All-Mountain West Conference selection this season.
Elcess was second on the team in batting average at .381. She was also second in home runs (10), RBI (45) and slugging percentage (.677).
Chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. These will be announced on ESPN during the Women's College World Series.
The All-Region teams honor student-athletes from nine NFCA regions for a total of 241 players from 117 different teams, filling out the first and second regional teams. In the West Region, 10 Mountain West Conference members were selected to the teams including Elcess and Schmallen.
