Neda Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

University of New Mexico catcher Rafael Neda was named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American today. Neda, the 2008 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year and second-team all-league honoree, batted .323 on the season with six home runs and 45 RBI in 49 games played. He is the fourth Lobo since 2002, and the sixth in school history, to earn Freshman All-American recognition.

Neda, a native of Obregon, Sonora, led all MWC freshman with best totals of 45 RBI and 16 doubles. In league games, he was seventh in doubles (8) overall and also had three home runs, 21 RBI and 19 runs scored.

TCU's Sean Hoelscher was the only other player in the MWC to earn a spot on the Freshman All-American team. Neda joins former Lobos Travis Young (1994), Lon Yamaguchi (1996), Matt Young (2002), Daniel Stovall (2004) and Jordan Pacheco (2005) on the lost of Lobos who have earned Freshman All-American honors.
