Former University of New Mexico football player Don Perkins has been named to the Dallas Cowboys’ Ultimate 53-Man Depth Chart, according to DallasCowboys.com.

Perkins was a running back for the Cowboys from 1961-68, rushed for 6,217 career yards, was placed as a member of the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor and was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The article on DallasCowboys.com puts him as Dallas’ third-down running back on the depth chart.

Perkins, a third-team Associated Press All-America running back in 1959, led the nation in kickoff returns with a 34.1-yard average for the Lobos. He ran for 636 yards and had 1,459 all-purpose yards.

He was a two-time first-team All-Skyline Conference selection, had 2,001 career rushing yards at UNM and finished with 3,466 all-purpose yards.

The Cowboys drafted Perkins in the ninth round of the 1960 NFL draft, the 106th pick overall. Read about Perkins’ inclusion on the Cowboys’ Ultimate 53-Man Depth Chart here.
