Former University of New Mexico football player Don Perkins has been named to the Dallas Cowboys’ Ultimate 53-Man Depth Chart, according to DallasCowboys.com.
Perkins was a running back for the Cowboys from 1961-68, rushed for 6,217 career yards, was placed as a member of the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor and was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The article on DallasCowboys.com puts him as Dallas’ third-down running back on the depth chart.
Perkins, a third-team Associated Press All-America running back in 1959, led the nation in kickoff returns with a 34.1-yard average for the Lobos. He ran for 636 yards and had 1,459 all-purpose yards.
He was a two-time first-team All-Skyline Conference selection, had 2,001 career rushing yards at UNM and finished with 3,466 all-purpose yards.
