Albuquerque, N.M. --- New Mexico women's soccer is scheduled to play its final exhibition match of the preseason Friday against No. 9 Texas at the UNM Soccer Complex. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start and will be open to the public. The Lobos are 2-0 in preseason action and face a tough final tune up Friday against the Longhorns.
New Mexico and Texas have played three times with the last meeting coming last fall in Albuquerque. The Lobos dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in an instant thriller. UNM scored the first goal of the match early in the opening period. Former Lobo Kristine Sweat scored the only goal for UNM on a shot from 25 yards out from the right side. Texas came back to tie the game in the second half and eventually won the match in overtime. Despite the loss, it was one of the year's top showings for New Mexico.
Texas leads the all-time series against UNM, 3-0 and has won twice in New Mexico. The series dates back to Oct. 2, 1994.
UNM opens the regular-season Aug. 31 at Oklahoma State starting at 6 p.m. MT. For more information about Lobo athletics visit www.GoLobos.com.
