Albuquerque, N.M.- The University of New Mexico women's tennis team decided to switch it up in doubles play today and play with new partners. For the duo of Ashley Bonner and Manumea Durie it worked to their advantage. The pair defeated Utah's Andrea Maughan and Erin Monson, 8-7 (6-0) to earn their second doubles win of dual play together. However, the doubles victory wasn't enough as New Mexico fell to Utah (15-6, 7-0), 7-0 at the Linda Estes Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lobos will wrap up regular dual season tomorrow at the Linda Estes Tennis Center at 3 p.m. against TCU.
In singles play it was a battle to the end for Anya Villanueva. Villanueva won the first set, 7-5 over Utah's Anastasia Putilina. Putilina is currently ranked 83 in the ITA polls. Villanueva fell in close, 6-4 set. The third set came down to a tie breaker. It went back and forth but Putilina prevailed taking the set at 10-8.
Bonner's match came down to the very end as well. The junior lost the first set, 6-4 to Monson but came back in the second to take it, 6-4. Just like Villanueva's match, the third set came down to a tie breaker where Monson walked away with a 1-0 victory.
The Lobos are currently 1-18, 0-7 on the season.
