University of New Mexico head track and field coach Joe Franklin announced today that the Lobo Invitational home meet scheduled for April 26 has been cancelled. New Mexico will host the 18th Don Kirby Memorial Invitational, sponsored by the Modrall Sperling law firm, at the renovated Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium on May 3.

The Don Kirby meet will mark the final tune up for the Lobos before traveling to Fort Worth, Texas for the Mountain West Conference Championships. Regional foes UTEP and New Mexico State are among the teams visiting Albuquerque on May 3. The UNM and NMSU women will have their events scored in the final competition of the Rio Grande Rivalry.

Franklin said New Mexico will host up to three outdoor home meets in 2009 to go along with a full indoor schedule at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
