Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at Barona Cup

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team finished the fall season in fourth at the Barona Collegiate Cup on the par 72, 7088 yard, Barona Creek Golf Club. UNM shot a 54-hole total of 850 (276-290-284), and finished 14-strokes behind tournament champion Colorado State.

Individually for UNM, Madalitso Muthiya led the way at 6-under par (69-71-70=210) to finish tied for 14th. Charlie Beljan finished 17th at 5-under par (67-74-70=211), Jay Reynolds finished at 2-under par (70-72-72) tied for 30th, Ian Medlock shot a 1-under par 215 (70-73-72) to finish tied for 32nd and Tyler Symons finished 68th at 7-over par (75-75-73=223). Finally Miguel Griego played as an individual and shot a 221 (73-74-74) to finish in a tie for 52nd.

Medalist honors went to Chris Baryla of UTEP with a 17-under par 199 (69-63-67), while Jimmy Cunningham of Denver finished three strokes back at 14-under par (68-69-65).

Colorado State was the tournament champion at 28-under par with a score of 836 (273-282-281), while UTEP finished second at 22-under par (284-280-278).

The Lobos will return to the links in February at the Arizona Ping Intercollegiate.
