ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- UNLV hit four home runs Saturday on its way to a 14-5 victory over New Mexico softball at Lobo Field. The Lobos had 12 hits against the Rebels including a 3-for-3 performance from senior Lindsey Elcess. New Mexico dropped to 20-17 overall and 4-5 in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV improved to 22-30-1 and 2-7 in league play.
The Lobos plated two runs in the first inning on RBI doubles from Elcess and freshman Gabriella Parra. It would be the last lead UNM would have in the game.
UNLV tied the game in the second with three doubles and scored two runs. The Rebels weren't finished after the inning and responded with four runs on a grand slam in the third. UNLV lead 6-2 after three innings.
New Mexico tried to mount a comeback in the fourth with a run on run-scoring double by sophomore Sara Loeffelholz.
The Rebels proceeded to hit a three-run homer in the sixth and two home runs in the seventh to seal the victory.
The final two runs for UNM came in the sixth. The Lobos had 12 hits but stranded 10 runners on-base Saturday.
Ashley Arnett got the win for UNM and moved to 2-0 while Stehanie Bregante was credited with the save.
