Recap |  Box Score |  Notes |  Jan. 10, 2009 - Lobo Basketball vs. Air Force

New Mexico head coach Steve Alford
Opening statements...
"Coming off of a loss to UTEP in the fashion that we lost, getting pounded on the glass and not making shots, there was a lot of concern going into the game. They were playing match-up zone and we knew we had to make some shots."

On defensive play...
"I thought our guys were terrific defensively. We did a really good job with switching and we limited their top three scorers. We made shots, and the team obviously looks better when we shoot well. This was a pretty good game for us."

On Jonathan Wills performance...
"Wills is a very versatile guard. He can play the one, the two or the three. I'm starting to get him more minutes. I thought he was the key to the first half. He did a great job running the point and I thought of all the guys who played in the first half, he was our biggest key."

On Air Force playing man to man defense...
"They started the game in man, which was a little of a surprise. We had good stops and contained them in transition. We really executed our offense tonight. We took good shots and hit them, and that always helps your offense.

Air Force head coach Jeff Reynolds
On tonight's performance...
"This was our second real road game and unfortunately it didn't go quite like we had planned. We have some young kids who haven't been in an environment like this. Hopefully they will take this as a learning experience, bounce back and be ready for Monday."

On play of UNM freshman Phillip McDonald...
"He had not been shooting that well riding into the game. (Chad) Toppert and (Roman) Martinez were the two leading three point shooters. Their focal point has been trying to get the ball into (Daniel) Faris. We let Phil get going and he burnt us."
