ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball travels to Texas this week to battle UT-San Antonio and Texas State. The Lobos will play UTSA on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. before heading to San Marcos for a three-game set with the Bobcats. The first game against Texas State is slated for 5 p.m. Friday. Judi Garman Review - New Mexico went 1-3 last weekend at the Judi Garman Classic. The Lobos faced two nationally-ranked opponents in Fullerton, Calif., including No. 1 Arizona State. UNM pulled out a 6-5 victory over Illinois. The Lobos also played No. 23 Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. The highlight of the trip was when UNM faced the U.S. National Team.
Series Information - Thursday will be the fourth meeting all-time between UTSA and New Mexico. The Roadrunners have won two of the three games but UNM won the last meeting on Feb. 20, 2005, 4-3. The Lobos have never played Texas State.
Lobo Review - New Mexico is 14-10 overall and close out the non-conference portion of the schedule this weekend in Texas. The Lobos are hitting .266 as a team and have three players hitting over .300. Freshman Gabriella Parra leads the team with a .439 batting average. Senior Lindsey Elcess is hitting .406 with a team-leading eight home runs. UNM as a team has clubbed 22 long balls and 26 doubles.
Pitcher Overview - Senior Kelly Ninemire has handled the majority of the pitching duties. Ninemire has made 19 appearances including 16 starts. She has a 9-7 overall record with a 3.20 ERA. In 89 2/3 innings, Ninemire has struck out 77 batters. The Lobos have used three other pitchers this season including freshmen Kyla Nelson and Madelyn Machac.
Chasing The Roadrunners - UTSA enters the week with a 16-12 overall mark after defeating Missouri Tuesday. The Roadrunners play Missouri again Wednesday before playing New Mexico Thursday. UTSA is hitting .284 as a team and has four players batting over .300. Danye Holmes is tied for the team lead with five home runs and has a .390 batting average. Holmes is also one of three pitched used by UTSA this season. Holmes is 5-4 overall with a 1.44 ERA, while Amanda Nikolenko has a 2.35 ERA and an 8-6 record.
Tracking the Bobcats - Texas State upset No. 18 Baylor Tuesday night and improved to 21-11 this season. The Bobcats shocked the Bears in Waco, Texas and have upset two ranked teams this season. Texas State beat No. 15 Washington earlier this year, 2-1. The Bobcats have won 15 of their last 17 games. Texas State is hitting .260 as a team and has three players hitting .300. Alex Newton leads the team with a .330 average. Ragan Blake got the win against Baylor and improved to 9-8. Blake is one of three players used in the circle including Katie Garnett. Garnett is 10-3 overall with a 2.04 ERA.
