UNM Women's Basketball vs Oklahoma
Saturday, November 19, 2011

Coach Yvonne Sanchez on the overall game
"It's tough because we're not into moral victories but like I told them at the beginning of the year, if you guys play hard, that's what I ask of you. If you put yourself in a position to win, that's what we ask of you as a staff. They did both of those things. We'll watch the film and we'll learn. I was really pleased with a lot of things. We took the 13th team in the country down to the wire, again, and we're going to find a way to win those games. I'm proud of those players and I've told them before, I wouldn't trade them for anybody. We'll get it done."

Coach Yvonne Sanchez on the Oklahoma State tragedy
"The Lobo family is really heartfelt with Miranda Serna, Kurt Budke, and the Oklahoma State nation. It's a tough loss for women's basketball. Miranda Serna was a local hero. She was probably one of the best recruiters and one of the best people I know. We just want to send a heartfelt sorrow out to her family and I know it'll be tough times for them but hopefully God will get them through it and heal them."

Porche Torrence
"It was a tough loss, like last year we lost by two points again and it was a last minute shot. We have to keep our heads high. We fought and in each play we were aggressive more than the last two games we've played. Coach Sanchez said in the locker room that we have to keep our heads high and keep battling. This shows that we have a lot of heart in us so we have to keep working hard and get ready for our game on Tuesday."

Jourdan Erskine
"I just really wanted to get this win. I wasn't really performing like I should have in the past couple of games so I wanted to step up my game and play that big five role. This is definitely a stepping stone. We know what we can do and what we can play like. Everyone played as a team and we collaborated so I think if we use this game and keep moving forward, we're going to be fine."

Coach Coale on Oklahoma's shooting
"We're a very good shooting team. In practice, in our two exhibitions and in our opener we shot the ball extremely well, especially behind the arc. I've been sort of subtly trying to prepare them for the day that the ball won't go in and today was one of those days. We're a young bunch and it wasn't very pretty but we continued to pull together and try to get the high percentage shot. To shoot that miserably and still get the win, I think says something about your team."

Coach Coale on what surprised her about UNM
"The way they shot the three! They came out on fire and then they got confident. We really struggled with their screening action and that's an area we have to get better. You give them credit, they made open shots and they made tough plays. I thought they competed and they really kicked us on the glass."

Coach Coale on the Oklahoma State tragedy
"We played with very heavy hearts today. We had a very distracted practice yesterday and a tough trip for us. Obviously we're here in Miranda's home town and that's very difficult. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Serna family, the Budke family and all of the Oklahoma State family. It's a tragedy beyond belief."
