ALBUQUERQUE, M.M. - University of New Mexico softball player Katie Gilmore was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, Thursday morning.
The senior is the first Lobo softball player to earn Academic All-District honors since Ryanne Hodgins made ESPN's first team All-District team in 2005.
The Phoenix, Ariz., product is majoring in Elementary Education and currently has a 3.56 grade point average.
Not only does the senior lead in the classroom, but she also leads on the field. Despite being injured, Gilmore is currently second on the team in batting average (.363), tied for second on the team in stolen bases (9), and third on the team in RBIs (17). The senior has also cracked the top 10 in several of New Mexico's all-time record categories. Gilmore is fourth in RBIs with 103. She is currently seventh in slugging percentage (.491) and doubles (35), and tied for eighth in home runs (13). She is also 10th in total bases with 244.
