ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico track and field squad wrapped up the first day of competition of the New Mexico Classic, tallying eight top-ten finishes with a relatively small contingent of Lobos running.
After a comparatively large team effort last week at the New Mexico Invitational and a huge upcoming weekend with the Don Kirby Elite and Husky Classic, the number of Lobos participating, 17, was smaller than most days of a meet. Nonetheless, New Mexico put together a solid effort.
The highlight of the evening was the men's pole vault, where New Mexico claimed a pair of victories between the seeded and unseeded pole vaults.
In the seeded pole vault, Logan Pflibsen maintained his streak of at least sharing first place collegiately. His 17'-2.25" vault was a first-place tie as well as a new personal record. Robert Warensjo notched eighth as the other seeded pole vaulter.
One of only six Lobo women to compete Friday, Marin Schweigert matched last week's height with a 5'6" mark in the women's high jump, good for 10th.
