The University of New Mexico men's golf team finished the National Invitational Tournament in 10th place today at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The Lobos shot an 8-over 296 in the final round to finish with a total of 872 (283-293-296), eight strokes over par. Arizona State won the event, finishing 24-under-par for the tournament. Senior Charlie Beljan and sophomore Steve Saunders led UNM, tying for 16th in the individual race at 1-under after three rounds.
Beljan posted an even-par 72 today, carding four birdies and four bogeys in his final round. After back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14, Beljan needed a pair of 3s on the par-4 16th and 18th to even his score on the final 18. Arizona State's Niklas Lemke won the event at 9-under par.
Saunders posted his second straight 70 in today's third round. He had a very steady round with birdies on 2 and 10 to finish a bogey-free round at 2-under par. Sophomore Parker Pemberton shot a 76 to finish at 6-over for the tournament and tie for 55th overall. Junior Robb Bierbaum's 78 today moved him to +7 overall, tying for 59th. Sophomore Nick Geyer carded a 79 in his last round to finish at 11-over and tie for 66th.
The Lobos next travel to the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on April 13-15.
