ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Lobos return home for the Sheraton Airport/Comcast Lobo Invitational, Sept. 7-8, after a 4-0 performance at the Tiger Invitational last weekend at Savannah State. New Mexico hopes to extend its six-match streak and 7-1 overall record, which is the program's best start since 2009.

Head coach Jeff Nelson's Lobo record sits at 99-56, just one shy of his 100th UNM victory. He will become the second New Mexico volleyball coach to reach the 100-win mark. Laurel Brassey Iversen (1983-86; 1988-2000) was the first, and amassed a record of 290-210 over 17 years at UNM.

New Mexico hosts Georgia Southern (5-2), Portland (4-3) and UC Santa Barbara (5-2*).

Nelson anticipates good competition this weekend from all three schools, particularly UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos are headed by Kathy Gregory who is in her 38th year with the program.

"All three are pretty good teams this year," Nelson said. "UC Santa Barbara is a perennial powerhouse in volleyball so it will be a good weekend to gauge where we are at."

Last time out... The Lobos went 4-0 last weekend in the Tiger Invitational at Savannah State, defeating UNC Asheville, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Kennesaw State and Savannah State. It was the second tournament UNM has won this year and extended the Lobos' winning streak to six matches. At 7-1, the Lobos are off to their best start since 2009. That squad finished 20-10 and made the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 15 seasons.
