ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Beautiful conditions led to record-setting numbers in the second round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Golf Course Friday afternoon (Sept. 26). New Mexico increased its lead to nine strokes after firing a course-record 11-under 281 in the second round, and also set a new 36-hole mark with a two-round total of 295-281-576 (-8). The Lobos will look to become the first team to win the Dick McGuire Invitational three straight years when the tournament concludes Saturday morning (Sept. 27). UNM will group with Oklahoma State (300-285-585) and Pepperdine (306-289-595) in the final round, beginning at 9:50 a.m. Full team and individual results are available at www.golfstat.com.

Individually, Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.) of UNM and Karin Sjodin of Oklahoma State are tied for first after establishing a new 36-hole record with a two-round total of 138 (-8). Downs led the tournament after day one with a 70, but Sjodin carded a 67 Friday to tie Downs for the lead. Downs scored a round of 68 Friday, which set a new personal best for the two-time Mountain West Player of the Year. The heralded junior and preseason All-American is still looking for the first individual tournament championship of her career.

Pepperdine's Carolina Llano, the NCAA Preview individual champion, is in third with a 73-67-140 (-6). Suzie Fisher of Tulsa moved up 32 spots to fourth place after firing a course-record 66 in the second round.

All five Lobo starters are in the top 14, including Katrina Leckovic, who shot up to fifth place with a second round 69. Leckovic currently has a score of 76-69-145 (-1). Junior Shannon Johnson (75-72-147) and freshman Ashley Rollins (74-73-147) are part of a four-way tie for ninth place. Sophomore Christine Fernandez stands in a tie for 14th with a 77-72-149 (+3).
