ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball fell to UNLV, 5-3, Sunday at Lobo Field. Sophomore Gabriella Parra led UNM at the plate going 1-for-3 with two RBI. UNM had two hits in the game and fell to 20-18 overall. The Lobos dropped their fourth straight Mountain West Conference game and have a 4-6 conference record. UNLV improved to 23-30-1 on the season and 3-7 in league play.
New Mexico took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Sara Loeffelholz scored.
The Rebels responded with four runs in the second inning. UNLV got a three-run homer from Stephanie Bean in the inning. Bean went 3-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI. Laura Briones also had an RBI during the frame.
UNLV added another in the third on an RBI double by Alyssia De La Torre. De La Torre doubled to left field scoring Brittany Meade.
The Lobos scored twice in the bottom of the third but couldn't manage a rally. UNM plated two runs on two hits but left two on-base. Parra had two RBI's on a single through the left side of the infield.
Senior Kelly Ninemire pitched the full seven innings and took the loss. Ninemire allowed five runs on 10 hits and dropped to 13-11 on the season.
Heather Slettvet got the win for UNLV after throwing four innings. Slettvet started the game, then was relieved and came back in to close out the contest. Slettvet improved to 3-11 with the victory.
UNM hosts New Mexico State Tuesday in the Route 66 Casino Hotel Rio Grande Rivalry at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at Lobo Field and available via gametracker and all-access on www.GoLobos.com.
