This Week: The Lobos (8-4, 0-1 MWC) take the northern swing through the Mountain West Conference this week. UNM will play Colorado State on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. on The Mtn., followed by a Saturday, Sept. 26 meeting with Wyoming at 7 p.m.
**Anne Marie Anderson and Amy Gant will call the action for The Mtn. from Moby Arena on Thursday night. The Mtn. is available on Comcast channel 276 and DirecTV channel 616.

Lobos Among Tops In Attendance ... New Mexico is currently ranked 20th in the nation with an attendance average of 1,410 fans this season. It is the first time since 1996 that the Lobos started the season with over 1,000 fans at the first seven matches of the season. The 1996 team started the season with seven consecutive matches over 1,000. The Lobos' season-high so far in 2009 is 1,911 vs. Baylor on Sept. 11. MWC member Colorado State is ranked 13th overall with an average of 1,987 fans per match. New Mexico finished the 2008 season ranked 20th in the national attendance rankings.
Michaelsen Earns Fourth All-Tournament Team honor ... Junior setter Jade Michaelsen earned her fourth tournament honor of the season on Sunday, Sept. 20 when she was named to the Arizona Invitational by Marriott University Park All-Tournament Team. The Tucson, Ariz. native has also earned honors for the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic, Nike Portland Invitational (MVP) and Comcast Lobo Challenge. Michaelsen recorded three assist-dig double-doubles over the weekend - 30-10 vs. UTEP, 52-11 at Arizona, and 41-10 vs. Tulane.
About New Mexico (8-4, 0-1 MWC) ... The Lobos started MWC play on the wrong foot with a 3-1 loss to TCU on Sept. 16. UNM hopes to reverse that this week on the road at CSU and Wyoming ... Junior Lisa Meeter leads the team with 2.52 kills and 3.00 points per set, one of four players with 2.00 or more kps on the season. Junior Jade Michaelsen leads UNM in assists with 9.79 per set. Sophomore Amy Wong and Meeter are 1-2 in service aces with 16 and 15 each. On defense, sophomore Allison Buck leads the MWC with a 4.31 average, while senior Anna Lehne and sophomore Ashley Rhoades lead UNM in blocking with 0.98 and 0.97 per set ... UNM placed third at the Arizona Invitational. Jade Michaelsen was named to the all-tournament team ... UNM finishes second at the 2009 Comcast Lobo Challenge to now-No. 24 Baylor. Jade Michaelsen and Rose Morris were named to the all-tournament team ... UNM won the 2009 Nike Portland Invitational with wins over American and Portland. Jade Michaelsen was named MVP of the tournament, while Lisa Meeter and Allison Buck were named to the all-tournament team ... UNM won the 2009 MCM Elegante Lobo Classic to begin the season. It is the third season in a row the Lobos have started the season 3-0 and won the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic. Anna Lehne was named the tournament MVP, and joined by Michaelsen and Buck on the all-tournament team ... The Lobos were picked third in the 2009 Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll, the same place they finished the 2008 season. The big difference this season is UNM earned three first-place votes from the voting panel of coaches and media ... Junior setter Jade Michaelsen was named MWC Preseason Co-Player of the Year by the same voting group ... Michaelsen and Morris are the team captains for 2009.
About Colorado State (8-3, 1-0 MWC; Receiving votes in coaches poll; CSU leads the series, 39-21) ... The Rams are led by Danielle Minch with 3.78 kills per set and MWC Preseason Co-Player of the Year Tessa Nelson, a middle blocker, with 2.08 kills and 1.25 blocks per set. Setter Evan Sanders averages 9.89 assists per set. CSU is 1-0 in league play with a win over UNLV. Head coach Tom Hilbert is in his 14th season at CSU.
About Wyoming (8-5, 0-0 MWC; play UNLV and TCU earlier in the week; UW leads the series, 34-26) ... The Cowgirls have a crazy week ahead of them with a road trip to UNLV on Tuesday, then home for TCU and UNM on Thursday and Saturday. Freshman outside hitter Jodi Purdy leads UW with 3.48 kills and 2.50 digs per set. Head coach Carrie Yerty is in her second season at Wyoming.
Injury update ... Lobo senior outside hitter Rose Morris will be out the next two weeks with a finger injury suffered in the Pitt match on Sept. 12. Morris suffered the injury on a block in the fourth set with the score tied at 22-22.
RPI rankings ... RichKern.com released its first RPI rankings of the season on Monday night. The unofficial RPI rankings, that are close to the NCAA's system, has the Lobos ranked 19 and the Lobos' Pablo ranking is 36. Kern also has the Lobos ranked 41 in his current poll. The Lobos ended the 2008 season ranked 66th in the NCAA RPI report.
