ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico senior women's basketball player Dionne Marsh has been invited to participate in the WNBA pre-draft camp held on April 4th at the University of Tampa. Marsh was personally invited by Carolyn Jenkins, the WNBA Director of Personnel, and is one of approximately 40 top global prospects at the event. Marsh will enter the draft set for April 9 and looks to become the first Lobo drafted since 2003.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to workout for the WNBA," said Marsh. "I never thought I would have this chance and I look forward to this experience. It's truly a dream come true."
Marsh will travel to Tampa, Fla., on April 3 to participate in the league's annual pre-draft camp. WNBA coaches and general managers will have the opportunity to evaluate the skills during the event. Players will participate in on-court sessions and compete against one another in hopes of improving their draft status.
"Dionne is our all-time leading scorer and has had a great career here at UNM," said Lobo head coach Don Flanagan. "Everyone in our community and this team is proud of her. She is very deserving of the honor and we wish her the best of luck."
The 2008 WNBA Draft presented by adidas will be held in Florida on Wednesday, April 9, as a conclusion to the week-long celebration of events surrounding women's basketball.
