ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico senior Dionne Marsh has been invited to training camp with the Sacramento Monarchs. Marsh, who recently competed at the pre-draft camp, will battle for an opportunity to make the roster and sign a free agent contact. Marsh will join 18 players trying to make the final 11 spots on the Monarchs roster. Training camp for Sacramento is scheduled to open on April 20.
"I'm thankful to Sacramento for giving me this chance and I'm excited for this opportunity," said Marsh. "They like to push the ball and I think that is a benefit for me. There will be a lot of experienced players there and I know that I need to perform. I'm coming in as the underdog so no one really expects a lot. I'm going to be working out hard next week to get ready."
Marsh completed her four-year career at New Mexico on March 22 and left a lasting mark on the program. The Flower Mound, Texas native, is the all-time leading scorer in UNM women's basketball history after scoring 1,913 points. She was a 4-time all-Mountain West Conference selection and was named the MWC Championship Most Valuable Player three times. Marsh ranks third on the all-time MWC scoring list and finished her career at UNM averaging 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.
The WNBA allows teams to carry up to 18 players on their roster for the first 10 days of training camp before reducing their roster to 15 players for the remainder of camp. The final roster cut-down will reduce the roster to 11 active players. Each team may also place two players on the injured list.
