It only took four weeks for freshman guard, Jasmine Patterson of Amarillo, Texas to confirm her approval for the University of New Mexico. Despite early morning workouts, four hours of class, and study hall on top of all that, Jasmine is anxious to return to the college life.
Ever since beginning her basketball career in the second grade, Jasmine's love for the game has never disappeared. "It relieves a lot of stress. I know that when I'm going through something, as soon as I step on the court everything is cleared," Jasmine said. Jasmine has been playing basketball with current Lobo teammate, Brianna Taylor, since they first began playing together as kids. They refer to each other as sisters, both reign from Palo Duro High School, and have stuck together through it all. On August 23, they will begin their college career together.
Jasmine has kept busy this summer by going to open gyms everyday to play basketball, but is looking forward to coming back to Albuquerque to be successful both on the court and in the classroom. She plans on going into medicine, with the hopes of becoming a pediatrician one day.
The four weeks in June Jasmine spent as a UNM college student were nothing but tiring, still she continues to keep her attitude positive and hopeful for her years to come as a Lobo. An education, a degree, and improvement of skills are a few of the things Jasmine hopes to take from being at UNM. A few of the things she hopes to bring to UNM are "defense, being able to score, and being there for the team, cheering them on. Everybody needs a cheerleader!"
Jasmine Patterson and her four freshmen teammates, Brianna Taylor, Morgan Toben, Tina Doughty and Erin Boettcher, return to Albuquerque along with the rest of the women's basketball team in less than two weeks to begin classes and the highly anticipated/dreaded pre-season workouts! Everyone is excited to come back to school and start preparing for a new season.
