Box Score |  Sept. 20 Lobos vs. Air Force

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- It might have been Military Appreciation Night at the Johnson Center, but on the court the University of New Mexico volleyball team grounded the Air Force Academy, 30-8, 30-7, 30-19.

The Lobos (10-3, 1-1 MWC) quickly built leads in each game keeping the Falcons (7-8, 0-2 MWC) on the defensive the whole match.

"I was pretty happy in the first couple of games with the way we stayed focused," said Lobo head coach Jeff Nelson. "It got sloppy at times but we continued to go at it aggressively. In Game Three, we made some significant changes to the lineup and got a bit sloppy, but overall I was still happy."

In Game One, the Lobos got long service holds by Lisa Meeter, Kerri Beck and Kelsi Phillips. Phillips, a freshman defensive specialist, held serve from 17-7 to 29-7.

Game Two saw much of the same with long service holds by Anna Lehne, Melissa Middleton, and Meeter. Lehne took the Lobos from 1-2 to 14-2, including back-to-back aces. Lehne finished the night with a team-high three aces.

"I thought we served really well and got good input from everyone tonight," said Nelson. "It was a good solid effort."

Nelson used several reserves in Game Three as the Lobos took a quick 7-0 lead behind three big kills by junior All-America candidate Jeanne Fairchild.

Fairchild finished the night with a team-high 14 kills. Meeter recorded her eighth, and fifth consecutive, double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs. Libero Gayle Tripp also had 12 digs on the night to tie the game-high. Setter Jade Michaelsen had a team-high 20 assists.

New Mexico returns to action of Friday night, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. when Wyoming comes to the Johnson Center. It is Jam Johnson Night as the Lobos try to the biggest crowd of the season in the Johnson Center.
