PROVO, Utah - The University of New Mexico softball team fell to Brigham Young, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah. Senior Erin Brandow led the Lobos at the plate going 1-for-2 with an RBI, a stolen base and a walk. The Lobos will travel to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on Colorado State on May 8. New Mexico's game against Colorado State will be broadcasted live on the Mountain Sports Network at 1 p.m. MT.
New Mexico started the game with a leadoff walk by Cristin Anderson to get on base. Jessica Garcia got the second walk for the Lobos to put runners on first and second. Brandow singled down the right field line to score Anderson and get the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
With two outs and bases loaded, Jessica Purcell-Fitu tripled to right center to score three runs for the Cougars in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead.
BYU scored two runs in the bottom of the second off of a two-run home run. The Cougars got their final run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game ahead 6-1.
Kristin Delahoussaye went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cougars with two runs. Angeline Quiocho went 1-for-3 on a home run with two RBIs, a run, and a walk. Christie Zinanti (9-1) earned the win in the circle for BYU (36-10, 9-2 Mountain West Conference) with seven strikeouts.
Brandow had the only hit for the Lobos during the game. Anderson had two walks and a run. Garcia, Cassandra Kalapsa, and Stefanie Carramusa each drew a walk to get on base for New Mexico.
