ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico women's soccer will host UTEP this Sunday at 4 p.m. The Lobos are 3-3-0 this season and are coming off two battles with No. 8 Texas and No. 24 Purdue at home. UTEP is 6-1-0 heading into the weekend. The match will be the eighth in the history of the series and will be played at the UNM Soccer Complex.
The Miners lead the all-time series, 2-5-0, and have won the last four meetings. The last Lobo victory came on Oct. 22, 1997. UNM defeated UTEP, 1-0, in an overtime battle down in El Paso, Texas.
Senior Kristine Sweat leads UNM with four goals. Sweat has led the Lobos offensively, scoring the only goal against the Longhorns and was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5. Defensively, UNM has held strong through the first six games with four matches determined by one goal.
UTEP recently defeated Texas State (4-0) and Sam Houston State (4-0) last weekend in the Border Shootout. The Miners have not allowed a goal in their last five matches. The only loss for UTEP came against Northern Colorado on August 27. The Miners are coming off a 20-win season that set the school and Conference USA record for most wins. UTEP was a 2005 NCAA Tournament second round qualifier.
