LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech ended the New Mexico softball team's (14-8) five game win streak with a 5-3 win over the Lobos at the Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Classic today.
Senior Sabrina Sandberg drove in the first run of the game in the second inning, singling to score freshman Ryanne Hodgins who was pinch running for junior Ashley Shartzer. The Raiders got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Brandy Moulin doubled to left field, scoring Natalie Enderlin who lead off the inning with a single.
Texas Tech claimed the 4-1 lead just one inning later. Kelly Rhyne doubled down the right field line to score Natalie Kula. Enderlin singled to center following Rhyne, allowing Sigala to score. Rhyne scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch by sophomore Iraina Ogas who came in to relieve senior Amy Dumas.
Enderlin added an insurance run in the fifth, doubling to center to score Rhyne.
New Mexico got two runs back in the seventh thanks to junior Kelli Edelbrock and freshman Amy Ray. Edelbrock singled with one out, allowing senior Ora Hensley to score. Freshman Robyn Hutson scored the final run as Ray flied out to left field.
Erin Crawford picked up the win for the Raiders, tossing a complete game, allowing just three hits and one earned run while walking three and striking out four. Dumas took the loss for the Lobos, throwing 2.1 innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, one walk and two strike outs. Ogas pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk and two strike outs.
New Mexico takes on Columbia at 4 p.m. and Texas Tech at 6 p.m. CST today.
