COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - True freshman Nicole Reed has been awarded the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honor. Reed, a true freshman from Whittier, Calif., scored the game-winning goal in New Mexico's 1-0 win over Drake on Sept. 5. The La Serna high school product received a cross at the top of the box from fellow freshman Jael Fanning and sent a one timer past the outstretched arms of the Drake goalkeeper. Reed, who was filling in for an injured Kaci Paetz, made the most of her time as she fired off two shots including the game-winner.

Reed is the first Lobo since Oct. 1, 2007 and only the 16th player since 2001 to earn MWC player of the week honors. The last time UNM wont the award, freshmen Alexis Ball and sophomore Kiani Wong swept the honors for New Mexico for their performances against Arizona State and Northern Arizona.
